So, this past week I have been really excited about getting to coach elementary basketball. I love basketball, and I love working with little kids. However, this morning I was informed that my supervisor for AmeriCorps is going around telling everyone in town that I am not allowed to work for anyone other than AmeriCorps. What a peice off bullshit. Its totally not true. What I do on my personal time is my personal time for one, and so she should be going and telling people what I can and can’t do on my personal time excpecially without talking to me about it first. Hello? So yeah, apparently she went and told our lead teacher that I can’t coach basketball becuase I am not allowed to work. Which I was ok with, I was like ok well I could just go help out with it. But then the teacher walked up to me and was like well if you can’t work then you can go coach the kids, and I will come in every once and awhile and help and get paid for it. Now why would I coach for free while someone else is getting paid for it. That makes no since at all. So anyways least to say that didnt start my day off well. Then I went home, and come to find out she had also told my sister that I couldnt work for them at all becuase I wasn’t allowed to work. Now telling my sister I am not allowed to do anything for her is crossing the line. If I want to do something for my sister God I am going to do it. Its my sister for crying out loud. So who knows who else that she told I couldn’t go work for them. It pisses me off. Anyways, then after that I get an email from her telling me what I should be doing she tells me to do stuff that I am already doing. Apparently she is paying no damn attention. When she is the one that set up for me to be in school 4 hours a day. So yeah least to say I am pissed off today. I am thinking about telling AmeriCorps where to shove there 40 hour a week job. But I don’t know what to do. What would you do?
Sadly, I think she may actually be correct, but can check on it for you. I mean she’s wrong in talking to other people about what you can and can’t do, however, I think the premise of Americorps is that you’re available all the time. I’ll find out for sure though.

i don’t know what to tell you because i’m seeing this from your point of view and i thought something was up with the job the first time that i hurd about it. It is a pile of shit if you ask me, but you like to work and do stuff for the school. I wonder how much time becca would get you if you were to quit and just work for her? Hmm, that’s honestly an option for you to consider. Or if you quit this job, i wonder what would happen if you were to apply to work for basketball or something else with the school? I also wonder what she might tell bryce if she talks to him or not i don’t know but still, it seems like it’s going to be like this for the entire time your working for them, so i don’t know what to say, it’s something your going to have to consider the pros and cons. I would think that you should however email charly and tell him your on the verg of quiting.

Yeah I am actually allowed to work for 15 hours a week, more if I feel like I can do it. There are some members of AmeriCorps who aren’t allowed to work. But not the type of member that I am.

Well then I’d definitely explain the situation nicely to her and also her supervisor i.e. via Email with CC. Whether you are allowed or not, she shouldn’t be going around telling others what you can and can’t do. And that’s something her supervisor *may* just want to take up with her.

Yah, I am more upset about the fact that she is telling everyone something that I didn’t even know about. Its definitely not her place to tell others what I can and can’t do. Especially when she starts telling my sister I can’t do stuff for her.

Then again, you could just go and kick her ass I suppose, won’t do anything for your AmeriCorps career, but it’d probably feel pretty darned good.

Yeah, I would feel pretty good about that. However, I like Mike’s idea of decapitation better, but I think that is slightly illegal. Lol. Anyways, I am emailing supervisors about it right now. I am not happy just found out some other stuff.
